Clinical Supervision that’s more than a mandatory box-tick

Empathetic and responsive professional supervision for Positive Behaviour Practitioners across Australia

At Banksia Support Services, we’re not everyone’s cup of tea—and we’re okay with that. Banksia was built to prioritise people and create positive change in our communities, not just tick mandatory boxes.

Because as a Behavioural Support Practitioner, you deserve the time, tools and support to be able to work with certainty and confidence. And to know where to go for answers.

You deserve support that makes a difference to your everyday

I get it. When you work as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, every day is different. It’s impossible to know what’s ahead.

And on top of that, you’ve got to manage your diary. Keep up with your documentation. All whilst abiding by the comprehensive NDIS Capability Framework that is constantly changing.

Clinical Supervision is your time.

As a clinical supervisor, I truly care about giving you the time, tools and support you need as a Behavioural Support Practitioner to learn and grow. Whatever you’re facing, I approach every session with no agenda and I’m always ready to answer all your questions.

Because what matters to me is empowering you to do the impactful work you do with certainty and confidence, and ensuring you leave every session feeling validated, reassured and better than when you arrived.

Banksia’s professional supervision is agenda-free and completely guided by you

Your supervision session is a time where we come together to reflect on your work practice to review, evaluate and discuss, and see where there’s opportunity to improve. And celebrate the incredible wins you have that often go unnoticed.

Plus, the comprehensive experience of your Banksia supervisor means you can ask whatever questions you want, and expect to get instant answers around 90% of the time. And if we don’t know the answer on the spot? We always know where to get it.

What makes up clinical supervision with Banksia?

Here’s how I approach this time as a clinical supervisor

  • We focus on developing practice-based knowledge, understanding, and skills that will improve your competence and professional fulfilment. We believe in lifelong learning and encourage ongoing exploration and self-reflection to support ongoing personal and professional growth.

  • We see professional supervision as a safe space to come together to reflect, discuss and make you feel heard, validated and reassured.

  • We see professional supervision as a safe space to come together to reflect, talk, and feel heard and validated. It’s a place to ensure your work is ethical and aligned with the NDIS Capability Framework.

  • We believe real progress only comes from being willing to have someone hold up a mirror and challenge you so you can grow. This happens when you’re prepared to feel uncomfortable and vulnerable in a safe space.

A typical session might look like:

Reviewing current cases

Guiding you through challenges or setbacks

Answering your NDIS questions

Listening to concerns or difficulties

Pointing you in the direction for more learning

Your supervision time is for you

Professional supervision can be so much more for you than a mandatory box-tick. Guided by what’s currently on your plate, it is a supportive, educational and therapeutic time where you can explore and enhance yourself as a practitioner.

You give so much of your time and energy to your clients. This supervision time is for you. To reflect on your needs. To have a space where you can progress towards being the best version of yourself as a practitioner.

What to look for in a clinical supervisor

I absolutely believe that you need to find the right supervisor for you. But ultimately, you want to find someone that means you leave every session feeling positively challenged, relieved, validated, and hopeful for the future.

Look for someone who:

  • Makes you feel comfortable to reflect openly

  • Shares your ethical values

  • Adds value to your knowledge, skills and confidence

  • Is available and accessible to you regularly

  • Has a strong competence in their practice field

  • Is appropriately trained and receiving clinical supervision too

  • "Amy makes me feel so welcome, so seen, so understood. Her supervision has sharpened my critical thinking and given me the confidence to challenge perspectives—both my own and others’. I can bring any question, any time. Beyond my own growth, her incredible supervision means my team gets the same depth of support and challenge that has helped me grow as a practitioner.”

Our answers to your common questions

  • To become a behaviour support practitioner under the NDIS, you must be assessed by the NDIS and be deemed suitable to provide these supports. This includes submitting an application, having a current supervision agreement and professional development plan which focuses on ongoing continuous learning. Here’s the rundown.

  • The textbook answer is that clinical supervision for behaviour practitioners generally includes caseload revision, analysing behaviour support plans, reflecting on decision-making and abiding by the NDIS Capability Framework. At Banksia, we take a human-centred approach and support you as a behaviour practitioner, and a human being. Sessions are guided by your questions and your needs.

  • It’s important to find the right clinical supervisor that makes you feel positively challenged, heard and supported during your sessions. It might take some searching to find the right supervisor for you. It’s a bit like dating, it can take a while to find the right fit, but the person who makes you feel the most comfortable and be the best version of yourself will always be the right supervisor for you.

  • Yes, the The Banksia Behaviour Practitioner Pathway is my practitioner training program. But I wholeheartedly and firmly believe it is the best practitioner course in Australia. Why? Because it gets results. And it has taken 20 years, 2000+ hours of registered training, 3 university degrees, and 500+ hours of my own logged supervision with industry leaders to curate and create.

It’s hundreds of pages of templates, assessments, plans, tools, reports, checklists and more. They’re organised, categorised, and only what you need — because you don’t need more overwhelm.

It’s a one-stop practitioner shop. EVERYTHING you need to embed ethical, evidence-informed practice has been provided right here in this course.

  •  If you are currently an allied health professional and interested in transitioning to behaviour support, you can gain experience in the field through additional training and relevant work experience with individuals displaying challenging behaviour. Here’s the NDIS requirements if you’d like to find out more.

  • An internal manager/supervisor will almost always have an agenda. It’s usually around KPIs, protecting the organisation, and following organisational policies and procedures. That’s their role. An external supervisor doesn’t have that agenda. An external supervisor is there without any conflict of interest, either perceived or actual. Their only job is to guide you based on the questions you offer them, and to give you feedback on reports based on what you've told them and what you've shown them. With their understanding and expertise in continuous improvement, their job is to support you, your personal and professional growth.

Questions? Let’s answer them

No more second guessing. I truly believe when you feel seen, listened to, and understood — you can move forward with certainty and confidence. And I’d love to help you get there.
